The control room

By The Car Park Society Inc.

Location: 149 Victoria St, Te Whanganui-a-Tara

Property Partner: Willis Bond

Dates: October 31st - December 13th

The Control Room is the Phase Zero Rupture of The Car Park Society. It is a modest urban tenancy that functions as both public portal and member hub, seeding the Watcher Network and testing prototypes before the full Induction Centre installation which we are hoping to activate early 2026.

The Car Park Society is about reclaiming forgotten or overlooked spaces, places where histories have been buried or distorted. The public are invited to interact with the four public activations in the central Te Aro location, uncovering these complex layers of our history. Join a stream of internal wānanga, using low-resource but high-impact methods - projection, sound, QR glyphs, symbolic ritual acts.

Location: cnr Victoria & Dixon Streets

Activation deatils:

Activation 1 – 31 Oct: The First Rupture: The Exchange Projection overlays of colonial maps and glyphs. QR glyphs unlock File #1. “The burial is broken. You are observed.”

Activation 2 – 14 Nov: The Battle Archive: Manners St 1846 Projection overlays of “riot vs refusal.” Soundscape of haka, musket fire, colonial orders dissolving into static. QR glyphs unlock File #2. Oracle declares: “They called it riot. We call it refusal.”

Activation 3 – 28 Nov: The Drowned File: Reclaimed Land Projection of lost shoreline. Soundscape: waves + Harbour Board minutes. QR glyphs unlock File #3. “The sea still waits beneath. You are reclaimed.”

Activation 4 – 12 Dec: The Veins Beneath: Te Aro Pā / Waimapihi Projection of rippling water textures. Soundscape: awa + glitch static. QR glyphs unlock File #4. Oracle: “Ko te awa ahau. Ko te awa ko au. The memory flows.”

We encourage you to support this activation by participating & joining the artists through out their project.

Also to acknowledge the ongoing support from Wellington City Council & our property partners Willis Bond.
