Artists Séraphine Pick and Isabella Loudon will use Wellington Railway Station as a temporary working studio while they develop a major collaborative exhibition for Whangārei Art Museum. From July to October 2026, the station will become a visible creative workspace where commuters and visitors can watch the artists test materials, build large-scale installation works and gradually shape the exhibition over time. Rather than keeping this process behind closed doors, the project offers a rare and generous public view into the experimentation, problem-solving and making that sits behind a major gallery presentation.

Séraphine and Isabella have developed a close friendship over the past years and are very excited to be working collaboratively to present this exhibition. It is unknown territory as we both work in different mediums, but we share a passion for process led making. We are building this project around a common interest of investigating human-made materiality, with all its flaws and imperfections, and in response to the advance of image-making mediated by technology. Our proposition is that human makers remain vital.
