LETS GET WELLINGTON DREAMING... Imagine your future city!

This is a call for the submission of radical, community building ideas for projects that utilise vacant or public space in Te Whanganui-a-tara.

Independent public art organisation Urban Dream Brokerage are looking to invest in new projects for 2022/23 in our city.

Through recent funding from the Wellington City Council driven by the Aho Tini strategy, we are pleased to be able to offer our city’s artists, creatives & social practitioners a range of project opportunities to apply for. We are looking for ideas ready to commence between now and July 2023.

  • We welcome approaches from new, emerging and established practitioners.

  • Partnerships with existing work would be considered.

  • Will consider all artforms, unafraid of developing bold new ways of working with audiences.

  • Vacant site residencies & shorter public space activations are available.

We want to enable work that engages with its audience, encourages participation, celebrates Te Ao Māori, promotes cultural diversity, provokes critical political themes and honours our whenua… Please address these aspects in your approach.

We want you to be thinking about how we can shape our future, acknowledge our past and redefine care in our city.

We are offering:

Six activations in public sites located between Te Aro Park & The Embassy Theatre.

  • 4 x $2,500 value with UDB support

  • 2 x $5,000 with UDB support

This will include access to agreed public sites, full health and safety advice, photography and writing for promotion, and UDB production and publicity support.

Three activations in vacant site residency style, to the value of $10,000 with UDB support.

This will include access to a vacant commercial site, with relevant insurance for 6 weeks to be used as studio space and public presentation. Funding will cover 6 weeks artist fees, curator / mentor fee, photography and writer fees with UDB production and publicity support.

Remember… we are open to all forms of creative community expression - performance, parades, moving image, installations, music, dance, story telling, workshops, walks, food… and more!

Looking for inspiration? Have a look through our archive of projects or buy the book.

Please be familiar with our process and criteria before making your submission. We have made our application brief to encourage new people with fresh ideas to come forward alongside well formed applications.
